Yellow Dog Linux 4.0 Reviewed

“I finally wrote a somewhat in-depth review of Terra Soft’s Yellow Dog Linux 4.0. It’s basically a PowerPC port of Fedora Core 2. The good? Pretty modern software, and setup is a snap. The bad? RPM sucks as always, and there are a few too many things that are broken out of the box. Linux PPC; it’s a niche-within-a-niche, as I heard one Slashdot comment call it, but it may well be worthwhile if you’re annoyed by x86 hardware.”

I’ve never really used Linux, but it certainly seems to be catching on recently. People do favor the PowerPC processing as such, and this ties in with another article:

“IBM has big plans for the 970, Apple’s so-called “G5″. The CPU will support partitioning, similar to IBM’s mainframe systems, allowing multiple operating systems to run at the same time on a single CPU. A Mac built around this chip could theoretically run OS X, GNU/Linux, Mac OS 9, and the PowerPC version of Windows NT, all simultaneously and independently.”

So the future looks bright for Apple and Linux!
