Mess.be Exclusive: MSN Messenger 5 for Mac feature list!

After Steve Miller showed off a screenshot of Messenger 5 for Mac, every form of news around it died a silent death. But after taking a good look at an internal concept file, we can provide you with a full feature list!

What will be available?

- You can set your display picture, just like MSN Messenger 6 and 7 for Windows
- Conversations show your buddy’s display picture in the conversation, in the dock on the right, or both!
- Display Pictures can be sorted in categories, a feature the windows version still lacks
- You will be able to receive custom emoticons, but not create and send your own (yet)
- Indirect file transfers will be available, solving many problems
- Companies can use MSN Messenger for Mac 5 to connect with their LCS
- You can chat with a maximum of 15 persons per conversation

What will not be available?

- Webcam support (still not)
- Send custom emoticons
- Backgrounds, packs, games, winks, etc…

There are many other things to consider about Mac’s, I mean for one thing there is no gaming even comparable to PC, but of course I do take your point about the fact that there is simply not enough in MSN Mac to make it worthwile unfortunately.

    is it possibly?

  8. Usayd Says:

Shockingly its still unavailable! It was supposed to have been released back in April! To be honest I can’t say when its coming out but its annoying me now. IT just shows how much M$ cares!

  9. nadine Says:

msn for macs are bodgy and crap..windows have all the good msn products and mac doesnt even have a good with with moving emoticons and display pictures etc…far out when is this going 2 b fixed because other wise they may lose cusomers…

  10. Usayd Says:

Nadine, MSN is a Microsoft service. MSN Messenger is a Microsoft product. Windows is also a Microsoft Product. Apple is Microsofts ‘rival’. Of course they’re not going to make the applications as good! I agree that it sucks, and I wish there was a decent open source alternative, but the truth is - this way is the only logical way.

  11. rhian Says:

    hey
i have the msn 5 for mac.
its is crap :( i cnt do webcam like my friends, it takes ages to send files :!::!:
    u cnt do anything gd.
but..then i downloaded mercury, its like a rip off of msn, but mac’s can hav it too.
    its not bad.
but i wouldstill prefer proper msn for mac if they ever release a good one.

  12. Usayd Says:

yep, its crap. As i described above - the reason why they dont release a good one is because Apple are a competitor of Microsoft. Essentially M$ want people to come to Windows, and therefore they wont make any of their software packages on the Mac OS decent. Thats not to say Mac wouldnt do the same thing, they just dont have the opportunity.
