MSN Virtual Earth

I posted on Google Maps, so I might as well post on MSN’s new service called Virtual Earth. I’m not saying this because I’m a Google fanboy nor a MS hater, but because it’s a fact: Virtual Earth sucks bigtime. Why? Lots of reasons: It goes slow as hell, sometimes it just stops loading new imagery, leaving you a nice black window, the imagery IS in fact in black and white, no colors like in Google Maps, and it uses dated imagery: the same landstat pictures that have been available for years. How we know? Well for example take the Apple HQ in Cupertino, CA: MSN’s version...

Windows Vista and IE7 bètas

Today the (public) Windows Vista bèta program started, together with IE7. PCWorld has a nice article about it that gives you a quick update on what the main improvements are (or should/will be) and some screenshots. One of the most interesting facts in the article was this: IE7 has this incredible NEW asskicking feature called ‘tabbed browsing’, and that’s not it: there’s also an RSS feed discovery button (located on the menu bar between the history and printer buttons, see screenshot)! I mean, from where do they get all those cool ideas?! Enough with the sarcasm,...

Shot man not connected to bombing

By BBC 07/23/05 "BBC" – - A man shot dead by police hunting the bombers behind Thursday’s London attacks was unconnected to the incidents, police have confirmed.  The man was killed in Stockwell Tube station in an incident described by Scotland Yard as a "tragedy".  Two other men have been arrested and are being questioned after bombers targeted three Tube trains and a bus.  Police have also raided a house in Streatham Hill, south London, in connection with the...

Longhorn is now Windows Vista

REDMOND – the new operating system of the American computer giant Microsoft is called ‘ Windows Vista ‘. Microsoft confirmed that today on a briefing of sales and marketing employees in Redmond, America. The name had been circulating for quite some time on the Internet, but so far the new OS had only been known under the codename ‘ Longhorn ‘. Microsoft wants to bring Windows Vista on the market by the end of 2006, five years after Windows XP was launched. I waited to post the new name here until it was officially confirmed, because at first I didn’t...

More FireFox News

Firefox 1.1 Scrapped "The Firefox team has decided to scrap the planned 1.1 release (already in Alpha 2) and instead release the final version as 1.5 due to the significant number of bug fixes and changes. The 1.5 feature complete beta is expected next month." From the article: "We are planning for a Firefox 2.0 and 3.0, but will divide the planned work over (at this point) three major Milestones, 1.5 (September 2005), 2.0 (unscheduled) and 3.0 (unscheduled). All major development work will be done on the Mozilla trunk, and these releases will coincide with Gecko version revs." Yahoo...

Google extensions for FireFox

Well, I never heard of it, but they’ve been here since July 7, 2005. I found a link to the new Google Toolbar for FF on the main Google page and from there a link to the Google Firefox extensions page. Apparantly Google has already made three extension, being ‘Google Toolbar’, ‘Google send to phone’ and ‘Google Suggest’ of which the latter is my favourite: it auto-completes search terms that you enter in the Firefox Search bar. Another interesting note I found was in a recent GoogleBlog entry by Justin Voskuhl, in which he thanks the Mozilla foundation...

More Explosions in London!

A number of Tube stations have been evacuated and lines closed after three blasts in what Met Police chief Sir Ian Blair says is a "serious incident". Sir Ian appealed to Londoners to stay where they were and said the transport system was effectively shut down. The minor explosions used detonators only, a BBC reporter said. In addition, a Number 26 bus in Hackney Road in Bethnal Green had its windows blown out by a blast. There were no injuries. BBC News
