Iraq, to stay or not to stay?

By Usayd

I’m Iraqi, I’ve been to Iraq and believe me I know that the situation in Iraq at the current moment is definitely not better then it was before the war. Why, well think about it. You attacked a country and killed over 150,000 Innocent Civilians. Yeah that might look like ‘just a figure’ to you, but lets face it - we seem to care so much about every British/American soldier that dies (which is fine) but when do we think about the innocent Iraqi’s who were killed by our soldiers our countries and our politics. This isn’t just the situations caused by the recent war, what about the sanctions that were imposed before this war? What about the imposition of the evil dictator the countries later condemned and used as an excuse to attack the country? What about the supply of weapons to create an unnecessary war between Iraq and Iran. The truth is the one thing the west is good at is creating a split between people. A few examples include India/Pakistan, Israel/Palestine and now they have gone to the level of even trying to create a split between religious differences. Sunni/Shia is one of the biggest misconceptions and ‘hyped-up’ things that the media has promoted. ‘Oh no Sunni insurgents’…’Oh no Shia gatherings’. They constantly fill your minds with the split, trying to create a divide not only in the Iraqi community, but more importantly in the Muslim community. Well I’ll tell you this right now. It’s not going to work because the Muslims are one Ummah, and that is the way it’s going to remain.

Well the article that I found very interesting was from the Guardian, UK.

 By Simon Jenkins

09/21/05 "The Guardian" — – Don’t be fooled a second time. They told you Britain must invade Iraq because of its weapons of mass destruction. They were wrong. Now they say British troops must stay in Iraq because otherwise it will collapse into chaos. This second lie is infecting everyone. It is spouted by Labour and Tory opponents of the war and even by the Liberal Democrat spokesman, Sir Menzies Campbell. Its axiom is that western soldiers are so competent that, wherever they go, only good can result. It is their duty not to leave Iraq until order is established, infrastructure rebuilt and democracy entrenched.

Even though I don’t totally agree with war, I don’t think all British people should be tarred with the same brush:!: I think the word “you” should be used carefully in comments like these.

You attacked a country and killed over 150,000 Innocent Civilians.

And just for the record, alot of us don’t see 150,000 deaths as “just a figure”. I think I can speak on before of a lot of British people that we sympathise with the families who lost a relative in the war.

    Thank you for your comment Seb;

    Regarding your first point. My intention was to have a strong impact on the reader. Remember that we all have the power to influence the actions that our countries carry out. However if you read the ending of my post you will see that I have infact given a definition to the “you”;

My message to the occupiers - get out of the country before they kick you out.

And the second point is of course a geniune one and again corresponding with my initial point about the concept of the “you” accusation you can see that i am not only talking to the public but also to those who are carrying out the actions which are so highly disliked. I agree that people do sympathise but since when do we have 2 minutes silence for people of Iraq when we are having 2 minutes silence for the very few people killed closeby.

I remember a quote from stalin:

“A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.”

Your 150,000 number is meaningless. Any reasonable estimate puts that number at 10,000 - 20,000 which is a significant reduction from the numbers that Saddam Hussein killed. Ignoring the Iran/Iraq war, the death rate was nearly triple under Saddam what it is now. And those were intentional murders.

The polling numbers have changed a lot, but very few people in Iraq want the coalition to leave right this very minute. They want the coalition to leave once a stable government is in place, and they would like to happen soon, but these things take time. Also, many of the terrorists actually fighting the new Iraqi government and coalition forces (not to mention innocent people) are not Iraqi. Like flies to flypaper, these foreign fighters are drawn in by the “threat” of democracy in the region, and are willing to kill as many innocent people and soldiers as it takes to prevent that.

    Thanks for the comment Mark.

Where you get your figures from, I hate to guess. But generally something as little as that would only come from the US Government. Frankly they have lied enough they’re not going to stop.
Again the rates at which Saddam killed people, I don’t know and I’m prettey sure you don’t either. Simply contridicting my statement with no actual facts to back it up is relatively useless.

The polling numbers have changed a lot, but very few people in Iraq want the coalition to leave right this very minute.

Yeah erm so Mark, how many times have you been to Iraq.
Sorry, i didn’t quite hear that answer? Speak louder?
None, okay. So you really think that the Iraqis enjoy their country being illegally occupied and their people being raped and killed by some people coming to impose liberation upon a people who are now much Much worse off then they were before the war?
Terrorists - do I even need to answer that. That word came out of nowhere, the US has branded all of the Muslim world as terrorists. You use that word and everyone jumps. The fact is, Iraq has had nothing to do with the attacks on whatever date, and maybe its time to start thinking about why we are getting attacked instead of blaming, killing and maiming innocent people. Its not about the figures, you can kill as many people as you want it’ll still be wrong. You can’t justify it, Oh Saddam killed this many so its okay for us to kill this many. You should treasure anothers life as you treasure your own. Its like i said in another post, is an Iraqis life not equal to an Americans? Its easy for you to say ” Yes they want us to kill them “… at the end of the day Human’s basic instincts tell you its wrong. Logic tells you its wrong and Fact tells you its wrong. The only thing telling you its right is that joke of a government and the corrupt leaders only interested in $$$.
Finally i’d like to end with this, I’m Iraqi and I’m defending Iraq with my voice. I’m not fighting in any physical way but I have the right to express my opinions on the matter. Anything good I say is from Allah (SWT) (SWT) and anything bad I say is from me.
    Thank you

The reason America has invaded Iraq (and Afghanistan not to mention) is obvious the oil. As everyone knows oil is running out, so the USA wants to control it as much as possible. If they don’t control it there country would be in a fragile position in the world.

There are lots of countries that also kill there own people.. The fact that Iraq would have weapons of mass destruction is only a made up story to justify invading it. If you have seen the movie ‘Fahrenheit’ you can see that there is a scene that lets you see the American military presence in Iraq, that is behaving not respectable in thought of the local civilians. They just think it is ‘one big adventure’… Instead they should work in service of the Iraqi’s…

Also a strange fact… Take a look at the death numbers; military… Iraqi soldiers are being killed way more often then their ‘foreign college’s’..
The fact that the invasion and maintaining of peace is just one big failure that only hits the people of Iraq themselves…

They haven’t chosen for there sons, daughters or any other relatives of theirs to be killed.. Peace on earth…

  6. Usayd Says:

Thank you pascal for that very interesting and, I feel, quite trutful insight into the situation that the world is currently facing. The superpower has to keep at its supreme being, and this will only remain if the fuel it is run by is in full supply. You can see how much America is centrallised around oil by the size of their car engines and the amount of pollution that the USA is giving off. Iraq, Afghanistan, wherever one chooses to attack, you must remember that there are always consequences.

  7. Pascal van Druningen Says:

There is going to be more resistance along the way against america if they continue to act stupidly for selfinterest…
Americans civilians think that they are superior then all other nations, but they are so wrong…
Every american will say that america persues peace in the world, but they don’t realise that they only anger the ones that aren’t being brainwashed by endless patriotism campaigns in the USA…
The USA isn’t such a great country to live in…

People can own guns without having to do much trouble..
It is encouraged to go in the army by giving a scolarship when you do so..

You can ‘vote’ on a president.. Who then can almost control the whole country.. You don’t see any ‘poor’ people making themself a president candidate… Simply because the whole campaign for that presidentship is going to cost you loads amounts of money..

There is no such thing as free religion, everything has to go the american way…

No one is equal.. The rich have the power.. The poor stay poor…
Maybe they’ll take an example to us…Europe….one day..
For now.. Let the economy get worse and worse because of the oil crisis…

Stupid because the oil company’s are for some time now ready to bring the new car fuel into the market.. They just wait till all the profit is collected from their investments in the oil fields…

How humanity has failed… :s… every one is selfish it seems..
