UNN Server Transfer
By UsaydOkay i’m in detention (you can guess which kind of detention) so I thought I might aswell write why the server transfer.
I hate my old webhost, they have the worst customer support and they have extremely few features. Well okay they are maybe for the more amateur user. I wanted a few main things, and one of these was mod_rewrite. I have had wordpress for a while and it did my head in so much because I couldn’t use nice permalinks! I contacted Netfirms repetedly and they refused to enable it. Other features that I hated was the fact that they had some crappy panel that they made themselves. They have been updating it but its nothing compared to the proper ones like cPanel or what I have now, Plesk.
Other things, basically the domain I registered was just being used as a redirect to my main domain at Netfirms (yse-uk.com). This meant that I really wasn’t making full use of the domain that I actually had to make an effort to get. Now the URL is www.usayd.com/whatever, and if you want to see nice permalinks here’s an example. http://www.usayd.com/2005/09/28/unn-server-transfer/.
I was explaining these issues to the guys on freenode’s # wordpress. They all recommended I switch servers but it was way too much hassle to scrap yse-uk.com which I am using to host multiple sites.
Amazingly someone actually offered to give me free hosting and instead of paying I could donate to charity. There are still good people in the world! I owe you one Pierre
Best of all the yse-uk/wordpress links bring you straight back to the articles here! Thanks Mark, and i’m using a plugin which brings the old ?p=23 to the new permalink structure. I now have access to a nice plesk panel where I can use my proper domain! Finally after some 2 years.
Thats me out, don’t worry there shouldn’t be any problems with the current website. If you find anything click the contact page and drop us a line, otherwise chill.
Next to start on the site redesign. Wordpress rocks and me out.

Great, now you’ll finaly stop complaining!
And if I’m not mistaking, the website seems to run faster. The new album is too Usayd! Keep up the good work!

Yey Usayd Networks is rocking. I promised a new theme and I am yet to fulfil that - but everything else is going well. Yep finally I can stop complaining about (most) things.
I am thinking of switching to the nice k2 (http://news.yse-uk.com) and making the site much cleaner….Because subpages would really improve navigation. Its still in beta stages so maybe upon the final release. Then of course there is Wordpress 1.6 - Possibly a while away but a vast improvement on the current - especially administration wise!
Thats the update - been busy with work in general as I know all the reporters have, I will write soon.

[...] Okay so your probably wondering why is that some kind of big deal? It’s just mod_rewrite, yeah you should expect to see that on every host but even so, you can live without it. Well, actually, thats not exactly true. Usayd Corp. moved their main website, Usayd Networks, to a different web host because frankly a WordPress site without structured permalinks (and other things) just looks unprofessional. I have literally requested Netfirms many many times to enable the rewrite engine and they always ignore me. At the moment, we do not offer mod_rewrite. It has been added to our list of client requested features and may be included in a future service upgrade. Thank-you for your suggestion. [...]
