Pff, Yahoo are nearly the furthest behind! I think that it goes in an order of (mainstream only):

1. Gmail (NOT GAY MAIL - Gangsta mail!)

2. Yahoo! Mail

3. Hotmail

But really 2 and 3 suck. I have 3 Yahoo! Accounts, I check two of them daily and use one of them for flickr. I prefer Gmail all the way, its really really good. I can't wait for AJAX email and I bet Gmail will get it. AOL has something like that, but that sucks anyway!

I totally agree, I can't honestly say of anything that Microsoft has thought of right of the top of their heads. Thats why I like Apple, okay their computers suck, but at least they look damn nice, are well built and are original!

I just read a /.'d article on a new AJAX Webmail coming out, sounds very cool. Unfortunately when you get slashdotted your server doesn't stand a chance so although their site is still up, the demo is not.

Calling Microsoft a boil upon the tech market, I realize, is harsh.

Had I yet known, and known personally, appreciation for more users of Microsoft products, then the company of, the agency of, and the companions to Microsoft (e.g. SCO, and whoever started the "five nines uptime" marketing campaign, and whoever started the "ROI" marketing campaign) -- well, at least the software of Microsoft does not seem offensive to me.

Always, apolitical users of Microsoft products aren't offensive to me -- but I think there is one public-library network admin, who really needs to install a DNS cache upon his network,or something else is haywire, causing the timeouts on DNS lookups.

You know, I don't mean to push the point, but I've come to wonder if Microsoft ever comes up with an original idea.

From what I've heard of it, Windows was first based on the NeXT codebase, also inclusive of parts of BSD.

From what I've noticed of it, some much of Microsoft's NT software was probably made after projects made of the MIT Project Athena, and furthermore.

(Active Directory, I hear, combines DNS, LDAP, and Kerberos into one lump ball.)

Microsoft has been sued for "ripping of" technologies -- e.g. one or another compression technology.

XP's GUI "stylishness" does not leave me impressed. I cannot regard it as if it was "technologically innovative". It's some PhotoShop and some API; window-managers available with Linux have been far ahead, as for themability.

Frankly: Microsoft, I think of as like a boil upon the tech-market. I realize that their systems are commonly installed, but I do much prefer Linux.
