GMail adds Virus protection

GMail (or should I start calling it Google Mail?) has added yet another free feature: Virus scanning is here! Get an automatic check-up every time you open or send a message with an attachment. We even try our best to remove viruses so we can protect you against all the ones we find. You’re on your own with the common cold (try chicken soup). GMail is now GoogleMail in UK

“As of today, UK Gmail users are seeing ‘Google Mail’ at the top of their Gmail accounts, and Google is warning they may lose their ‘@gmail.com’ addresses in the future. All new signups from the UK will be assigned ‘@googlemail.com’ addresses, and existing accounts will be able to use either domain for now. Gmail’s help pages explain this is related to their ongoing dispute regarding the Gmail trademark.” /. Unfortunately, we don’t know. It looks like i’m a bit of a mess. I really do not wish to lose my @gmail addresses. I had...

GoogleOffice?

Today Google and Sun are having a press conference in which they are rumoured to announce an Office Suite based on StarOffice/OpenOffice, and accessible via a web browser. If you don’t know what that would look like, you should have a look at Writley, a web based word processor. I believe this to be a really interesting step. Imagine being able to write things with the same word processor at home, at a friend’s place, at some internet cafe,… no more messing with an other version/software then the one you’re used too. Google could also give you free space like Gmail’s...

Microsoft joins the VoIP battle

Well this hardley comes as a surprise after Google Talk joined in the competition against Skype, MS hardley wanted to loose out on this expanding market.  Microsoft is preparing to enable computer users to make a normal phone call from their PC. The computer giant has increased its presence in the fast-growing internet phone sector by purchasing leading player Teleo for an undisclosed sum. Microsoft and rivals AOL, Google and Yahoo all currently allow phone calls between computers, but not yet to a domestic or mobile handset. Yahoo! is also in the process of making such a system.  ...

Google’s advances may involve more then just Jabber!

Ok so I was talking to Tibault about this exact thing yesterday after reading his post on Google Talk. As a matter of fact, I was talking to him on Google Talk about this topic. The topic, of course, is how Google Talk can be used as a VOIP software – according to Tibault they are working with another VOIP software to improve the communications in their new application. As a matter of fact, I even saw a whole news report about Google Talk! I was really not impressed with the BBC for broadcasting that report now because Skype has been availiable for more then a year and its not had any reports...

Google Desktop Search and Google Talk

I’ve been gone for two days and what happens? Google did not only release an entire new version of its Desktop Search program (not just an update) but it also released its first (putting Hello aside) IM application, Google Talk. |inline
